Top Egg Carton Manufacturers in the USA (2026)

Top Egg Carton Manufacturers

レオ・チャン著  | BonitoPak ライター | 成形パルプ製包装分野で20年以上の経験

Genuine egg carton manufacturing in the United States is concentrated among a handful of large producers, led by TekniPlex’s Dolco business and Huhtamaki North America. Most companies selling egg cartons are distributors. Knowing which is which changes what you can order and at what volume.

A disclosure first. This guide is published by BonitoPak, which manufactures molded pulp egg packaging in China and therefore competes with some of the companies described. It is written as a market map rather than a ranking, because a ranking produced by a competitor is worth little.

A second point worth making before the list. Most articles on egg carton manufacturers in the USA present ten or fifteen companies as if they were peers. They are not. American egg carton production is concentrated among a small number of manufacturers with large capital investments, and the rest of the market is distribution. That distinction determines what you can actually buy.

Egg Carton Manufacturers in the USA

1. Dolco Packaging, a TekniPlex company

The largest domestic name in egg cartons, and the one with the longest history. Dolco began in 1966 as the first US company to produce foam cartons for perishable food, and its original plant in Wenatchee, Washington still operates. The company runs five manufacturing facilities across the United States and is the leading domestic supplier of foam egg cartons.

What makes it unusual is material breadth. Following its acquisition of the assets of Fibro Corporation, a Tacoma molded fiber specialist, in 2022, Dolco became the only US supplier producing egg cartons in foam polystyrene, PET and pulp. It has since committed further to fiber, opening a 200,000 square foot molded fiber facility in Van Wert, Ohio in October 2024, a $40 million investment producing egg cartons from 100 percent recycled paper. Company details are published on the TekniPlex site.

2. Huhtamaki North America, molded fiber egg carton manufacturer

The Finnish parent brings more than a century of molded fiber experience and owns the Leotech pulp molding machinery brand, so the company builds the equipment as well as running it. Its Fiber Packaging division operates across nine countries and eleven plants. In 2023 it launched fiber based egg cartons made from 100 percent recycled North American material in the US for the first time, produced at Hammond, Indiana, following a $100 million investment in a 250,000 square foot expansion announced in 2022.

The rationale it gave is worth quoting for anyone assessing the market direction. The company projected US egg carton demand reaching 4.3 billion packs in 2025, and positioned the investment explicitly around producers shifting to fiber ahead of legislation and bans on polystyrene foam packaging.

3. Pactiv Evergreen

A very large food packaging operation rather than an egg carton specialist, but molded fiber sits within its product range alongside foam, plastic, aluminum and pressed paperboard. Its corporate roots trace to a 1959 merger, the current entity was formed in 2020, and it was acquired by Novolex in April 2025 for $6.7 billion. It operates 53 manufacturing plants.

For a buyer, the relevant point is scale rather than specialization. This is a supplier oriented toward very large accounts across many categories.

4. UFP Technologies

Worth knowing about for a different reason. UFP produces molded fiber from 100 percent recycled paper, principally derived from waste newspaper, custom designed and molded for high volume consumer goods. Its focus has moved firmly toward medical and industrial applications rather than food packaging, so it is not an egg carton source today. It is included because it appears in molded fiber searches and buyers waste time approaching it.

A Note on Fibro Corporation

Fibro, based in Tacoma, Washington, developed a smooth finish fiber egg carton designed for more precise printing and improved line handling. Its assets and licensed technologies were acquired by Tekni-Plex in 2022 and folded into Dolco. It still appears in older supplier lists as an independent company. It is not one.

Egg Carton Suppliers in the USA: Distributors and Stockists

These companies supply bulk egg cartons in the USA from stock, shipping in case quantities. For most small and mid sized producers they are the correct answer, and treating them as manufacturers leads to the wrong conversation.

ePackageSupplyCartons and plastic flats in bulk cases nationwideMid sized operations

The trade is the usual one. Stock ships in days, minimums are measured in cases rather than thousands of pieces, and there is no tooling conversation. You pay a distribution margin and you choose from a catalog.

Why the Market Consolidated

Understanding this explains why the manufacturer list is short and unlikely to lengthen.

Becoming a molded fiber egg carton manufacturer is capital intensive, and thermoforming is no cheaper. The two fiber investments described above were $40 million and $100 million respectively, for single facilities. Egg cartons are also a commodity at scale, sold on price into a concentrated customer base of large egg packers. High fixed cost combined with thin margin favors incumbents and makes new domestic entry very difficult.

Consolidation followed. TekniPlex acquired Dolco, then Commodore, then an egg carton business from Genpak, then Fibro’s assets. Pactiv Evergreen was itself acquired by Novolex. The number of independent domestic manufacturers has been falling for years.

The countervailing force is regulatory. Twelve states have enacted legislation aimed at banning expanded polystyrene packaging, with egg packaging among the affected applications. That is what pulled both major producers into large domestic fiber investments within roughly two years of each other, and it is the single most important trend for anyone buying egg packaging in the US today.

How to Verify Any Supplier Claims to Manufacture

The distinction between manufacturer and distributor is blurred deliberately in a lot of marketing, and it is easy to check.

  • Ask which facility your cartons are produced in, by city. A manufacturer answers immediately.
  • Ask what forming process is used and what wall thickness the part finishes at.
  • Ask whether tooling is cut in house and what a new mold costs.
  • Ask for minimum order quantity. Manufacturer minimums are in thousands of pieces, distributor minimums in cases.
  • Ask what happens if you need a cell profile that is not in the catalog.

None of this makes distributors a worse choice. For most buyers they are the better one. The point is that asking a distributor for custom geometry wastes time on both sides, and asking a manufacturer for fifty cartons next week does the same.

What This Means for Buyers

もしあなたがGo toBecause
A small farm or farmers market sellerA distributorManufacturer minimums are far beyond your volume
A mid sized packer on standard formatsA distributor or direct at volumeCatalog formats fit and speed matters
A large packer switching from foam to fiberA domestic manufacturerScale and proximity justify direct supply
印刷済み段ボール箱を活用した小売ブランドの構築Direct, domestic or overseasPrint economics improve sharply at volume
アヒル、ガチョウ、ウズラ、または七面鳥の卵の梱包A custom manufacturerStandard cells do not fit, tooling is the only route

That last row is where domestic options thin out fastest. Large manufacturers run standard chicken formats at volume, and specialty bird geometry is a tooling project rather than a catalog selection. We cover why in our guide to アヒル、ガチョウ、七面鳥の段ボール箱のサイズ.

What We See From the Manufacturing Side

We produce molded pulp egg packaging in Chashan Town, Dongguan, so we are on the overseas side of this market. A few observations offered plainly.

Domestic supply wins on speed and simplicity

For standard chicken formats at modest volumes, a US distributor will serve you better than we will. Stock ships in days, there is no tooling, no freight planning and no customs. We say this to enquiries regularly, because a producer who needs cartons next week is not a customer we can help.

Where overseas sourcing genuinely applies

Custom cell geometry, non standard bird formats, colored or printed cartons at volume, and private label programs. Those need tooling cut to your specification rather than a catalog selection. Sample molds run in about seven days and production molds around eight days after geometry approval, with minimums from 1,000 pieces, and options are set out on our カスタム卵トレイのページ.

The material question is the same either way

Whether you buy domestically or import, the questions worth asking are identical: what fiber, what wall thickness, what forming process. Our 湿式圧縮段ボール箱 finish at roughly 0.7 to 1.2mm with a smooth face suited to print, while 乾式プレス用トレイ finish at roughly 2.5 to 3.0mm for stacking strength. Any serious supplier should be able to answer those without hesitation, and 再生紙パルプ behaves differently from bleached or virgin systems.

これを実践に活かす

Work out which tier of egg carton suppliers in the USA you belong with before contacting anyone. If your volume is measured in cases per month and your formats are standard, a distributor is the right call and the manufacturer list above is not relevant to you. If you are switching a large operation from foam to fiber, the two domestic fiber investments described here are the obvious first calls.

If you need geometry that does not exist in a catalog, you are in tooling territory regardless of where the supplier sits, and the conversation shifts from price per carton to cell dimensions, minimums and lead times.

ボニートパック we are one option among several and the wrong one for plenty of situations described above. Where we fit is custom geometry, specialty formats and printed or colored cartons at volume. Details of what we run are on our カスタム成形パルプ包装 ページ。.

よくある質問

Q: How many egg carton manufacturers in the USA are there really?

A: Very few. Domestic production is concentrated among a small number of large manufacturers. Most businesses selling egg cartons are distributors buying from those producers or importing, which is a different proposition.

Q: Why is the market so consolidated?

A: Molded fiber and thermoforming lines are capital intensive, and egg cartons are a low margin commodity at scale. That combination favors large operators and makes new domestic entry difficult.

Q: Is fiber replacing foam in the US?

A: It is moving that way. Twelve states have enacted legislation targeting expanded polystyrene packaging, and major producers have invested heavily in domestic fiber capacity in response.

Q: Where should a small farm buy bulk egg cartons in the USA?

A: A distributor, almost always. Manufacturer minimums are far beyond small flock volumes, and distributors hold stock and ship in days rather than requiring production runs.

Q: When does importing make sense?

A: When you need custom cell geometry, specialty bird formats, printed or colored cartons at volume, or private label. Domestic stock is faster and simpler for standard formats at modest quantities.
